COUPLED THERMO-STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF VACUUM CHAMBER ASSEMBLY

Introduction:

A vacuum chamber is a rigid enclosure from which air and other gasses are removed by a vacuum pump. This results in a low-pressure environment within the chamber commonly referred to as a vacuum need to do coupled thermo-structural analysis for the given loads and calculate the welding size at all the joints.

Challenges:

Performing the coupled thermo-structural analysis, stress linearization (membrane and bending stresses )and weld calculations was a challenging task.

Scope of Work:

The Non-linear static analysis was performed on the vacuum chamber assembly in which 6 bar pressure was applied in the quenching chamber, 3 bar pressure inside the jacket and 1 bar pressure inside the shell coupled with internal temperature, a coupled thermo-structural analysis was performed on the vacuum chamber assembly.

Engineering Solution:

The non-linear static analysis was performed on the vacuum chamber and the factor of safety obtained was greater than 2.
