HARMONIC ANALYSIS OF 100TONNE CONCRETE TEST MASS

Introduction:

The structure consists of concrete with internal steel rods. The concrete is surrounded with the I-beams and circular rods.The total mass of the concrete structure is 100Tonnes. This complete assembly needs to be tested for harmonic loads and needs to calculate bolt sizes and number of bolts required.

Challenges:

Representing the Physics of the RCC concrete structure with internal tie rods and rebar’s intruded into the concrete which were separated by a thin rubber sheets. RCC was joined with the thick steel plate with the number of pre-tensioned bolts. Performing the sine sweep analysis on the RCC was a challenging task.

Scope of Work:

The following were the analysis load cases performed on the assembly.
1)Frequency Analysis,2)Self weight Analysis with 20 Deg from horizontal plane,3)Harmonic Analysis has to be performed on the complete structure, excitation in X,Y & Z-directions and Combined (X,Y &Z)

Engineering Solution:

In combined harmonic analysis the steel rebar’s, I-Beams are experiencing the maximum stress of 81.2Mpa at very few areas and remaining areas are below 55MPa. However all the other components in the assembly are well safe.
